'André the Giant' Nonfiction Graphic Novel Getting the Film Treatment
In a rare circumstance, a graphic novel is getting a film adaptation. The rarity comes from the source material, which isn't about capes and cowls but instead about the 7'4'' Eighth Wonder of the World, André the Giant, who passed away in 1993 after popularising the World Wrestling Federation.
Andre made several film appearances and became one of the world's most recognisable celebrities. Variety now reports that he's getting his own film, based off of the graphic novel André the Giant: Closer the Heaven.
Producers Scott steindroff and Dylan Russell are adapting the story from Lion Gorge Comics' authorised biography. Andre's daughter Robin Christensen-Roussimoff will act as consultant.
Steindorff made a statement following the announcement. “Andre the Giant rode the wave of the rise of wrestling in America, while suffering from the painful health condition of gigantism – there’s an Elephant Man story here.”
No word on casting as of yet, which will be an essential ingredient, and in particular finding the right man for the title role.
