David Fincher Puts His Hand Up to Direct 'World War Z 2'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Paramount Pictures has dropped both Friday the 13th and World War Z 2 from its 2017 release schedule. While Friday the 13th isn't happening at all, by the looks of it, World War Z might be looking to 2018 or 2019 for release. Now, THR brings word that a big name wants a big role in Brad Pitt's zombie sequel.

David Fincher has reportedly put his hand up to direct the film, though Paramount aren't exactly jumping at the chance. The report indicates that a source is adamant Fincher is "very creatively interested in directing the movie." That would see him work again with Brad Pitt, a relationship that famously started with 1995's phenomenal Se7en. Their last collaboration was 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So really, it's a long time coming.

Fincher is reportedly looking at a budget less than the original's $190 million, which is obviously not a problem for Paramount. The first film was a huge hit worldwide, and with Skydance co-producing and co-financing, it seems Paramount is hesitant for reasons that none of us are aware of. In any case, this sounds like a golden opportunity.
