Dick Van Dyke Joins the Cast of 'Mary Poppins Returns'
Emily Blunt is playing the title role, and surrounding her is an unfamiliar cast for age-old fans of Mary Poppins. But there will be one familiar face, as Dick Van Dyke confirms that he will be in the film.
Van Dyke played Bert, the chimney sweep with a cockney accent, back in 1964. .The 91 year old actor reminisced in an interview with THR. “There was a spirit about that thing from the very beginning,” he said. “Walt [Disney] had me in, and I heard the score and saw the scenes storyboarded on a wall, and I just knew.”
“This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up. It’s a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton.” The film opens December 25, 2018.
