Disney's 'Mary Poppins Returns' Begins Production
Walt Disney Studios has started production on the highly-anticipated sequel to Mary Poppins. This is the sequel to the 1964 classic in which the character Mary Poppins created by author P.L Travers dazzled on the big screens. Emily Blunt will step into the iconic role. The role was originally played by Julie Andrews.
The sequel stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Waters, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep (Which is incredibly surprising due to her distaste with Walt Disney). The Banks children will be played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, and Joel Dawson. Dick Van Dyke, the star of the original Mary Poppins, is set to appear in the film.
Rob Marshall will be in the director chair. David Magee wrote the script. He will also serve as a producer along John DeLuca and Marc Platt.
Mary Poppins Returns is set in Depression era London. After Michael suffers a loss. Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family. Along with some help from a optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda).
