Gus van Sant is a director who has never been afraid to give a shot of reality within his films— Drugstore Cowboy certainly falls into that category. This chronicle of a group of petty-criminals is packed with honesty, and articulates the American drug culture with a sense of humanity and dark humour. Matt Dillon gives a performance that is arguably the best of his career to date.
