'Game of Thrones' sees Series High Ratings with Season 6 Premiere
HBO's Game of Thrones has been a record-breaking juggernaut since its inception, and its amassed a number of records over its time.
In 2015, season 5's premiere saw a series high in viewership, before its own finale broke that same record. The season 6 trailer set a viewership record in it sown right. The series has piracy records, if that counts.
EW is reporting that the overall viewership of this year's premiere was 10.7 million, an increase of 9% over last year's kick-off, and another ratings record for the series. The number includes the show's premiere on the channel, the first two repeats, and streaming on HBO GO and HBO Now.
For on-air ratings, Nielsen has the premiere at 7.9 million, which suggests a 1% drop from season 5's premiere. HBO's streaming services has helped see greater numbers, and the on-air stats aren't something HBO are all too concerned with in their no-advertising service.
What it comes down to is, Game of Thrones will continue to see plenty of people tuning in right up until it ends, which looks to be in the next two years.
