"Hamilton" Star Lin-Manuel Miranda Most Likely to be in Mary Poppins Sequel
If you made predictions on what franchises Disney would bring back for a sequel, Mary Poppins wouldn't have been on your list of predictions. The 1964 classic is making its way back to the big screen.
Lin-Manuel Miranda was one of the creators of the broadway hit Hamilton and he is now in negotiations to join the Mary Poppins sequel. According to Variety, Miranda is in talks to play character Jack, a lamplighter who will closely resemble Dick Van Dyke's famous character Bert.
John DeLuca (Teen Beach Movie and Staten Island Summer) and Marc Platt (Bridge of Spies and Into the Woods) will produce the upcoming musical sequel. Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) will be a producer and director on the project.
Disney already has a good relationship with Lin-Manuel Miranda so it's likely he will take the role. Miranda helped Disney compose music for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming animated film Moana.
As details are limited it is now known that the sequel will take place in Depression-era London, taking place 20 years after the original. Emily Blunt will play the role of Mary Poppins according to multiple sources. Miranda is one talented individual, so it looks like the sequel to Mary Poppins will be in good hands.
Maybe Disney could convince Richard M. Sherman to write some new songs for the upcoming sequel. I can dream right?
