Is Tim Burton Set to Film Beetlejuice 2 in 2015?
Tim Burton's latest movie Big Eyes is currently in theatres with his next movie, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, getting ready to shoot with a March 2016 release scheduled. So, where does that leave Beetlejuice 2?
After filming of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is wrapped, Burton apparently has a lot of options he can consider for his next project, with Beetlejuice 2 being the likely selection. That's according to writer Seth Grahame-Smith, who recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about upcoming projects, which was when Beetlejuice 2 was talked about.
Grahame-Smith said "I’ve emailed with Michael Keaton. I know he’s excited about the idea. I know Tim is excited about the idea. Where it stands now is Tim’s got to get ready to make Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, and then hopefully we are set, deals are done, and we’re waiting in the wings ready to go right after Peregrine’s wraps up. The ideal timeline is we’re really getting into it toward the end of this year."
For those Beetlejuice-Burton fans out there, that's incredible news. That means Beetlejuice could well begin production towards the end of this year.
Grahame-Smith went on to say, "I think we landed on the right idea, landed on the right approach. It’s just now making sure that—for me—I don’t want to shit my pants in front of the entire world making a sequel to one of my favourite movies." He went on to say "...Tim was doing press for Big Eyes right before the holidays, and was getting the Beetlejuice question, and sort of tipped people off that Winona Ryder would be back. Which yes, she will be back."
If the news of a Beetlejuice 2 potentially going into production by the end of the year wasn't enough, having Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder confirmed that they will both reprise their roles is the cherry on the cake. Regarding Ryder, she hasn't done anything of any real note for quite some time. As for Keaton, he is incredibly relevant again, thanks to the success of Alejandro González Iñárritu's Birdman. So, it makes sense for him to return to the movie that made him. As they say, strike while the iron is hot.
