Joseph Fiennes Joins the Cast of Hulu's 'The Handmaid's Tale'
Hulu's adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale has cast its male lead with Joseph Fiennes, whose biggest credit so far is arguably Shakespeare in Love, as Commander Waterford. Waterford is a founding father of the Gilead and is a high-ranking official.
He rules the house where Offred, the titular handmaid played by Elisabeth Moss, works in her titular job. It is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's acclaimed novel, and is the story of the dystopian society of Gilead, a totalitarian regime and a place that was formerly part of the United States.
Offred must navigate a harsh world where one false word could mean death. The series is set to premiere on Hulu in 2017, with production set for later this year.
