First trailer for Warner Bros. The Jungle Book adaptation 'Mowgli'
Serkis, who’s perhaps best known for his Oscar-worthy CG performances in Planet of the Apes, The Lord of the Rings and most recently Star Wars: The Last Jedi, steps behind the camera to direct a less than idyllic tale about Rudyard Kipling’s fabled character Mowgli.
Warner Bros. unveiled the first trailer for Andy Serkis’ long-gestating take on Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book. But not to be confused with Disney’s recent live-action musical romp, Serkis’ Mowgli presents a darker, more scary retelling!
Mowgli's predominant CG-ensemble features the young warrior's (Rohan Chand) jungle parents led by alpha wolf Akela (Peter Mullan) and wolf mother Raksha (Naomie Harris). Trailer footage also features the return of Mowgli's trusted jungle advisers Baloo (Serkis) and ferocious black panther Bagheera, voiced by Christian Bale. And thank god for them, because not only must Mowgli contend with the jungle's hypnotic Python, Kaa (Cate Blanchett) and fearsome Tiger, Shere Khan (superbly voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), Mowgli must also come face-to-face with the dangers of man.
According to Serkis, Mowgli harbors more danger and darkness than past iterations of Kipling’s story - telling EW, “There’s no nodding to the audience that everything’s going to be fine. The jeopardy is real jeopardy.”
Check out the trailer and decide if this retelling is for you! Mowgli opens October 19, 2018.
