Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Adapting 'The Boys' for Cinemax
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's adaptation of Garth Ennis' cult comic book series Preacher hasn't seen broad light of day just yet, but while that AMC series lingers in anticipation of its May 22 release, the duo have latched onto another of the comic writer's properties.
Deadline reports that The Boys is heading to Cinemax, another comic book adaptation to line up alongside the upcoming Outcast series from Robert Kirkman.
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke will write for the series, on which the producing duo will be joined by Original Film's Neil Moritz and Sony TV.
The Boys follows the government's decision to have the CIA monitor all superheroes using a Black Ops team called The Boys and what happens when a Scottish conspiracy nut named Wee Hughie (whose girlfriend is killed by a superhero) is inducted into the group. The task force is reformed to take down rogue superheroes who have gotten out of control.
Just as Preacher sounds like a dark and comical new spin on the contemporary western, this sounds like a fascinating angle into the flood of superhero media out there right now.
The property was intended for film back in 2010, coming from The Big Short director Adam McKay, with Simon Pegg in the lead role. Rogen and Goldberg were among the selected writers to try and pen the adaptation. This never eventuated, but just like Preacher it seems Rogen and Goldberg will always find another avenue for beloved stories.
