The Basketball Diaries
Like a lot of drug narrative films, The Basketball Diaries does succumb to the preachy, "don't do drugs" motif. That aside, this uncomfortable and emotionally charged film is a compelling watch. DiCaprio's performance was at the time an early indication of his vast talents. He channels the haunting and self-destructive actions of a drug addict with equanimity.
