The Revenant Tops International Box Office
On the back of its haul of Oscar nominations, The Revenant took the lead at the weekend bo office, taking home $33.8 million at 8,388 locations in 48 markets.
In total, the DiCaprio starring pic has reached $104 million, along with $120 million in the U.S. It also won the U.S. weekend box office with $16 million.
The film finished more than $10 million ahead of Disney's sixth weekend of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed $23.3 million internationally for a total of $1.06 billion. That film is the number one film of all time with $880 million in the U.S., and its worldwide total of $1.94 billion trails Avatar ($2.87 billion) and Titanic ($2.19 billion).
The 5th Wave finished third on the international charts with $15.9 million in 33 markets, with an overall take of $38 million worldwide (which breaks even on its budget). The Big Short came in fourth with $10.1 million.
