A 'Game of Thrones' Spin-Off Needs the Right Angle, Says HBO Exec
HBO wants more Game of Thrones. That's no secret. Fortunately for the network, they have some time to think, with two more years left of their hit fantasy epic. While an extension of the series would only do harm, spin-off's are the go-to in today's climate.
At the premiere of Westworld, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said that "there are so many properties and areas to go... For us, it's about finding the right take with the right writer."
Benioff has been quick to pass off the question when asked about a spin-off, saying "you might want to ask George [R.R. Martin] about that. It's a great world George created and a very rich world.... I'm sure there will be other series set in Westeros, but for us this is it."
Bloys, however, would welcome Benioff and Weiss's involvement in whatever capacity.
