Amazon Picks up Pilots from Guillermo del Toro, More
Amazon has picked up five new pilots, with some a-grade talent behind them.
Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham bring drama series Carnival Row, Gilmore Girls creators' dramedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Matt Charman and Kevin MacDonald's Strange New Things, real-life superhero comedy The Legend of Master Legend, and Andrea Simon-produced pre-revolutionary Cuba drama Tropicana.
All five projects are from the studio, while Carnival Row is co-produced with Legendary TV and Strange New Things in collaboration with UK's Left Bank Pictures. Carnival Row comes out of a deal inked in early 2015, a TV series version of Beacham's feature spec script A Killing on Carnival Row.
That story is set in the future in a city called Burgue, which is inhabited by humans and other creatures, and a serial killer is on the loose. The project has been on the way to creation for 11 years now.
