AMC Renews 'Preacher' for an Extended Second Season
At the halfway point of season one, and with concerns given the lack of coverage for the show as well as it going up against HBO's juggernaut, Game of Thrones, AMC has thrown its faith behind its latest comic book adaptation Preacher, renewing it for a season 2.
The network has upped the order from season 1, which will consist of ten episodes, to 13, much like Breaking Bad back in its heyday. The show has the potential to be a Walking Dead and (dare I say) Game of Thrones-level hit, though it's certainly still trying to find its feet.
Fans (including myself) are holding out hope that season 2 promises a closer connection to its source material, with is in many ways an epic road tale, as season 1 has essentially defined itself as a prequel to the events that kick off the comic book series.
Because of that, the series seems to be at a standstill, though hopefully it can rev up and lead us into a bigger and better second season.
“‘Preacher’ is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season," AMC president Charlie Collier said. "What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
