Ant-Man and Spider-Man to Offer Comic Relief for Captain America: Civil War
Speaking with Omelete (via Comic Book Movie), director Anthony Russo explained Ant-Man and Spider-Man's roles in the movie, and it seems they'll be there to lighten up the gloomy mood set up just by the premise itself.
"Not all the characters in the movie have the same investment in the conflict. There are certain characters that come into the story a little later who don't have the same baggage that the Avengers have in terms of what's going on in the film. So they don't have as much darkness to deal with in the film..."
It seems the two characters, who honestly feel a little out of place considering the events seen in the first trailer (in which they were both absent), will come into the film later on, and from that we can gather that they won't play a major role in events.
While Ant-Man's role has already been glimpsed at thanks to the post-credits scene for that heroes' solo debut earlier this year, and it seems he'll be siding with Captain America, Spider-Man's role is less clear.
