'Aquaman' Writer on the Film's Setting
Aquaman is set to release in 2018, following Wonder Woman and Justice League, and Aquaman himself will feature heavily in that team-up origin film. But plenty of eyes are on the solo adventure, which should be a launching pad for a newfound admiration of the underwater character.
Writer Will Beall has spoken with Slashfilm to throw out any misconceptions that the solo film would take place solely underwater. “I can tell you that not all of the action takes place underwater,” Beall said.
“Some of the most fun action in the movie actually takes place on dry land.” When asked if the script is done, he said "Nope. I am still working on it with James [Wan] and Geoff [Johns].
Geoff Johns re-energised the character in the last few years, and much of his run on the comics saw Aquaman AKA Arthur Curry dealing with his place in the world, caught between land and sea. It's likely the film will take its inspiration from these stories.
Beall confirmed that there is complete synchronicity when asked whether Justice League production could alter the Aquaman script. “No, no, they know what’s happening,” Beall said. “Everybody knows what’s happening so it’s not that. It’s working out what’s going to make the best movie.”
Aquaman is slated for July 27, 2018.
