Arrow season 4 episode 5 "Haunted" Review: the dark forces next to action
I'm not a really big fan of Arrow, but when Constantine was announced to appear on this episode I needed to tune in.
So, after a rapid recap on everything I missed (and it was a lot) I understood the episode's plot. Sara died by Thea's hands, but Laurel missed her so much that she saw an opportunity to bring her sister back from the dead. But as for everything that is raised, there are consequences. What came out of that pit was not human, just a soulless body hell bent on blood lust and revenge.
A few topics were relevant for my undernourished Arrow mind:
. Oliver is a politician now running for mayor against Laurel (that can make for a really awkward friend reunion).
. MR. "Hunky" Ray Palmer is determined dead, but before his death he left Felicity a message that only now she had the courage to hear.
. Since I haven't seen a proper episode since like the second season, Thea for me was still the innocent little sister of Oliver, but it seems they are fighting buddies now.
. Laurel's dad has become shady-ish, and I still don't understand why he is working with Damien Darhk, that seems to be the devil in person.
One thing I liked to see and I was wishing to happen, even though I'm not a fan, was the relationship between Felicity and Oliver to flourish and seeing them together on the couch holding hands. That gave me butterflies in my heart.
Now for the man I was waiting to write about: John Constantine.
He appears in Oliver's flashback, looking for some magical artifact, as any normal Tuesday.
And as he is cool but also reckless, Oliver saved his life making him owe him, which he pays for years after when Oliver calls him to help him save Sara.
When he arrives at Arrow’s base, he rapidly gets his hands into the mess and he does a Restitution, a restoration of Sara's soul.
Constantine, Oliver and Laurel go save Sara's soul in the beyond, and they succeed, which is good because this was only the second time he did the intervention in his life. "It's like riding a bicycle," he said.
But as amazing in the dark arts he is, he is also a really good friend (in his weird way), so he only leaves after giving some advice after hearing Damien Darhk's name. He advises them to leave town while they can, because Dark is the devil and they will die by his hands.
As the episode ends we find out that Mr. Parker is alive and in trouble. What will our heroes do next? Stay tuned at 8/7c on The CW.
