Assassin's Creed Might Soon be Ramping Up its Marketing Campaign
Reviving the MacBeth collaboration between trio Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and director Justin Kurzel, Assassin's Creed is garnering plenty of excitement and intrigue despite its origins as a video game.
While adaptations from popular gaming franchises have never been popular or successful, Assassin's Creed is one that people are genuinely curious about. It, along with the upcoming Warcraft film, may ring in a new era in film adaptations, potentially doing justice to many treasured gaming franchises.
What little we know is this - Fassbender plays a new character not appearing in the gaming series, Callum Lynch. Lynch is able to tap into his genetic memories in order to experience the adventures of his 15th century ancestor.
With a year out from the film's release, Slashfilm has learned that a new website has been created for the series' rival corporation. Adding to the mystery, the film's official Twitter feed posted an image of the business card for the corporation's (Abstergo) CEO, Alan Rikkin. The number, when dialed, leaves a message for the caller:
"Hello, you've reached the voicemail of Alan Rikkin. I'll be out of the office on business until March 25 with limited availability."
Slashfilm theorises that the voice is that of Jeremy Irons, who plays a role in both Batman v Superman and in Assassin's Creed. In addition, March 25 is the release date for the superhero epic.
This could well be a trailer reveal, and a fantastic little clue if so. The thought gone into this is rare, and appreciated. If it turns out to be nothing, then at least it made for an interesting debate.
The film hits theaters on December 21, 2016.
