'Avatar' Sequels Release Dates Are Set
Well, finally James Cameron and Fox have set the release dates for the four Avatar sequels.
Avatar 2 will kick it off December 18, 2020. Avatar 3 will open December 17, 2021. Followed by a strange and unnecessary three year break. Avatar 4 is set for December 20, 2024. The (for now) finale to the series Avatar 5 will then open December 19, 2025.
“Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels,” Cameron said in a Facebook post.
Cameron announced at CinemaCon last year that he set out on making four sequels to Avatar. The first sequel was supposed to come out in 2018. The 2009 fantasy epic Avatar is still the all-time worldwide box office champion with $2.8 billion.
Cameron said that his vision for the story expanded significantly. He was originally only planning on two sequels, and that vision expanded to four.
All of the original cast will return for the Avatar sequels. It's also interesting to point out that all of the Avatar sequels will be coming out in December. This could make for some interesting competition if Disney continues its Star Wars Stories in December, which is more than likely.
Do you think Avatar will be a blockbuster hit again?
