Back-to-Back DGA Awards for Alejandro Inarritu Places The Revenant in Solid Position for Oscars
Director Alejandro G. Inarritu has become the first director ever to win back-to-back DGA awards for feature filmmaking, though considering those two films have been Birdman and The Revenant, that's not entirely surprising.
The horror stories from the set of The Revenant have become ingrained in all of our minds, to the extent that these stories helped sell the film when it released to the public, while also solidifying itself the title of favourite for the Academy Awards night.
Winning the top prize at the DGA is no small feat, and it has only 14 times failed in 66 years to go on to a Best Picture Oscar. The last film to win the Directors Guild's top prize without winning the Oscar was 2013's Gravity, falling to 12 Years a Slave in a competitive year (but really, they all are aren't they?)
Speculation must go on, as The Big Short won last month's Producers Guild Award for Best Picture, the race is well and truly on. Throw in Spotlight, and its going to be fascinating to see which comes out on top.
