Batman: The Killing Joke Animated Adaptation to Make One Major Departure from the Comic
Batman: The Killing Joke is garnering enormous excitement from fans, which is a breath of fresh air given that adaptations of this sort usually meet resistance from fan-bases. DC has earned enough of a reputation in their history of adapting their classic stories that fans are confident enough.
Though, the film is set to make one major departure from Alan Moore's famous comic book, and while it doesn't feel like a particularly big deal from where I'm sitting, long-term fans may feel a little frustrated by the apparent need to add a new spin on the story.
The adaptation will feature a prologue introducing Barbara Gordon as Batgirl. Although Barbara is a key part in the story, she is mostly a victim of the Joker's and a means for Batman to take action. Here, the writers have opted to give us some insight into the character before her fateful injury.
The prologue will be a 15-minute sequence chronicling the crime-fighting career of Batgirl. For now all we can do is speculate on what that entails, and hopefully it's not an overlong montage given it sounds like a highlights reel.
The film arrives later this year.
