'Batman v Superman' Looking at a Remarkable Fall from Box Office Grace
With a $166 million opening weekend, there was no doubt that Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was going to see a drop. But the distance to the ground is a lot farther than any of us expected.
Numbers continue to flutter around, and no official weekend totals will be confirmed everything until Monday, but the film earned a reported $15.35 million on Friday, which is an 81% drop from last Friday.
Word of mouth could very well be behind the fall, though audiences have been far more receptive to the film than critics. And by extension of that, the film was dubbed frequently over the past week as 'critic proof.'
Drops as deep as this are normal for a film that opens as big as this one did. And Batman v Superman has earned $209 million in the U.S., $538 million globally. So it isn't doing too badly for itself, and it may very well have some staying power for those whose curiosity has waned, but not diminished, in light of the film's remarkable opening week.
