Justin Paul reveals details about two new songs featured in Disney’s live-action ‘Aladdin’

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor The award-winning duo behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman shared some exciting details about two of their previously announced new songs for Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ remake.

Variety got the inside scoop, speaking with songwriter Justin Paul, about two new show tunes featured in Disney’s remake. According to Paul, one will be an original song sung by Disney’s beloved Princess, Jasmine (Naomi Scott). The second, will feature a duet between Jasmine and Aladdin (Mena Massoud). All this on top of composer Alan Menken returning to score the entire soundtrack!

”We got to write a new song for Jasmine,” Justin Paul tells Variety. “Alan wrote a beautiful piece of music and [Naomi Scott] is incredible.”

Additionally, Paul goes on to described Aladdin and Jasmine’s duet as “a sweet song” which, as seen in La La Land and The Greatest Showman, we’ll take his word for it.

Guy Ritchie will direct Disney’s live-action remake from a script written by John August (Big Fish, Corpse Bride). 2019’s Aladdin will be a retelling of 1992’s animated gem, starring Will Smith as the wise-cracking Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. Legendary composer and 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken will accompany Pasek and Paul’s new works including a new verse for “Arabian Nights,” originally performed by vocalist Bruce Adler.

Aladdin is set to hit theaters May 24, 2019, bookended by Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo on March 29, and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King set for July 19.
