'Black Panther' Tracking A $200M Opening Weekend
As I struggle to get a ticket for Black Panther...
The critically acclaimed superhero film Black Panther is currently tracking a $200 million opening weekend over the four day Presidents Day weekend. Right now Disney is only suggesting the film will make $172 million to $198 million in its opening weekend. Still a very impressive feat. Black Panther generated $25.2 million during the Thursday previews.
The projected Friday box office would be $70 million. (Which could very well explain why it is so difficult for me to get a ticket for this right now.) Black Panther is currently on pace to be the top February opening of all time.
The film stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/ Black Panther, alongside Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.
The story follows T'Challa as he becomes king of Wakanda, a technologically advanced nation in Africa that's home to the alien metal vibranium.
Black Panther currently has a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The highest in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler. The script was penned by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole.
