Boardwalk Round-Up: The Lion King, Toy Story 4, and Marvel Mania
This past month in Disney has been crazy. To put it in simple terms. Disney is prepping their new service Disney+ while starting the hype trains for their mega 2019 slate.
Welcome to the Boardwalk Round-Up: Where Cultjer's Disney Reporter & Editor-in-Chief of the Boardwalk Times Zach Perilstein analyzes all the latest Disney news and developments.
Marvel Mania
Marvel released the trailers for Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Both were impressive. We got to see Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in more action. Not to mention Samuel L. Jackson's young Nick Fury. Captain Marvel is set in the nineties and for all fans of the MCU it is sure to be an easter egg hunt. The big thing that Captain Marvel is introducing other than the hero itself is the villains and species known as Skrulls. I believe the Skrulls could be the next Thanos-type villain for the MCU.
Avengers: Endgame took a fantastic approach to the first trailer. Create more questions than answers. We did get some answers. Yet, none of that matters when Tony Stark is in space with Nebula, the old Avengers are back at Avengers HQ, and Scott Lang escaped the Quantum Realm? The trailer overall just brought more hype to the already impressive Avengers franchise.
'Ralph' Box Office Dominance Equals Disney Parks Exposure
To everyone who follows the Boardwalk Times. You know our main love is the theme parks. Now it's time to examine Ralph Breaks The Internet and how its performance at the box office may earn it an attraction at one of the Disney Parks. The film has made $258 million worldwide. It has been dominating at the box office domestically.
Now it is just the matter if Disney wants to insert the popular Wreck-It Ralph franchise in their theme parks. Wreck-It Ralph was rumored to be going to Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. Maybe, we get Ralph Breaks Tomorrowland?
'Toy Story 4' Adds Keanu Reeves and Key & Peele
Toy Story 4 has been teasing an ominous ending. Also, the teaser trailer introduced us to a new character called Forky. I give credit to Pixar because it's an interesting topic of bringing random objects to life, and then the random object admitting he shouldn't be alive. Forky, is a fork that Bonnie makes into a makeshift toy.
The teaser trailer reaction featured Key and Peele as new characters Bunny and Ducky. That teaser trailer reaction broke the fourth wall. Not to mention Toy Story 4 also has Keanu Reeves in a mystery role.
Pixar feels that Toy Story 4 is a good enough story to be told. It will get a lot of attention at the box office. Let's just hope the crew at Pixar provide a great story.
'The Lion King' Drops Its First Teaser
The Lion King teaser trailer built excitement. It stars a loaded cast of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, James Earl Jones, Billy Eichner, Keegan Michael-Key, Beyonce, and John Oliver.
This is one of Disney's most popular films of all time. It will be fascinating to see what they change in the remake. The first trailer looks promising.
Bonus: More Marvel Mania
Marvel didn't stop the dominance with just two trailers. It's rumored that the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer is going to drop soon. Which I don't know how they are going to edit that without giving a huge spoiler away for Avengers: Endgame. The trailer will give us a first look at Spider-Man's newest villain Mysterio, who will be played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Also, Marvel is developing a Shang-Chi film. With a script coming from Dave Callaham. Dave Callaham also wrote Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), and he's penning the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Shang-Chi would be Marvel's first film with an Asian lead. It also shows how Marvel is changing up its slate for Phase 4. This along with The Eternals are characters that the normal fans probably have never heard of. Well, Marvel has big plans on how they will be introduced.
It will also be interesting to see where Shang-Chi fits within the Marvel universe. Like we have the cosmic section that is with Guardians of the Galaxy and now Thor. We also have the Avengers side of the universe which is grounded on Earth.
So it will be interesting to see how Marvel does all these franchises.
Thanks for reading the latest Boardwalk Round-Up.
