Bob Iger and James Cameron Do The Opening Dedication Ceremony for Pandora
The 2009 blockbuster Avatar inspired Walt Disney Imagineering into creating an immersive planet inside Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. Today was the dedication ceremony. There is a video of it below.
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Avatar director James Cameron opened Pandora: World of Avatar this Wednesday morning.
Cameron describes it "As a dream coming true." Cameron first got the idea for Pandora and Avatar when he was 19 years old.
VIP guests were treated to the special ceremony. The land officially opens on May 27 but the dedication took place today. It is the largest expansion in Disney's Animal Kingdom Park.
"At Disney we have a ‘how did they do that’ standard, and I can’t think of a better example of that than what we’re standing in front of right now." Disney CEO Bob Iger said this while standing in front of the floating mountains and the surrounding bioluminescence.
Iger went onto thank the talented Imagineers and James Cameron for creating this incredible land. "He does the impossible again and again and again, merging wonderful storytelling with mind-blowing technology to create experiences that no one has seen before. And ‘Avatar’ is definitely one of them,” Iger said later in his speech.
James Cameron and Bob Iger were joined by some of the original cast of Avatar. Which included Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver. Pandora: World of Avatar boasts two attractions. The first attraction is a simulator attraction where you ride on the back of a banshee. That attraction is called Flight of Passage. The second attraction is the Na'vi River Journey and it's a more calm and lyrical boat ride through a bioluminescent jungle.
Pandora: World of Avatar officially opens May 26. Avatar 2 hits theaters December 2020.
