Brian Michael Bendis Comic 'Scarlet' is Headed to HBO for Development

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Comic book scribe Brian Michael Bendis has announced he and Alex Maleev's creator-owned project Scarlet is headed to HBO. Bendis made the announcement at the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas.

"I do a book called Scarlet, which is soon to be announced also in our universe of television," Bendis said to the crowd. "Not announced yet, but HBO. [It's] at the earliest stage; the team around it... will be announced as soon as all are on the same page."

Another Bendis creation, Powers, has just aired its second season on Sony's PlayStation Network, and the writer has worked with TV and filmmakers on a number of Marvel Comics adaptations such as Jessica Jones.

Scarlet launched back in 2010 through Marvel's Icon imprint, a creator-owned imprint reserved for exclusive talent within the publisher. The series follows a young woman in Portland, Oregon who is the unwitting founder of a new revolution against a corrupt government. Only eight issues have seen publication in five and a half years.
