Bryan Fuller's 'American Gods' Casts its Lead with 'The 100' Star Ricky Whittle
Hannibal helm Bryan Fuller has been working extensively on the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, the rights for which originally sat on a desk but now holds a firm place at Starz.
The project has now gained its lead, casting Ricky Whittle as protagonist Shadow Moon. Whittle is most known for his role on The CW's The 100, and the actor confirmed the casting through Twitter, stating "I am truly humbled & honoured to be Shadow Moon in@AmericanGodsSTZ. Thank u@neilhimself@BryanFuller@andmichaelgreen@FMNATV #AmericanGods"
Gaiman himself said in a press statement, "I'm thrilled that Ricky has been cast as Shadow. His auditions were remarkable. The process of taking a world out of the pages of a book, and putting it onto the screen has begun. American Gods is, at its heart, a book about immigrants, and it seems perfectly appropriate that Shadow will, like so much else, be coming to America. I'm delighted Ricky will get to embody Shadow. Now the fun starts."
No premiere date or production start has been released, though more casting news should be just around the corner.
