'Captain America; Civil War' is Officially the Top Film of 2016 at the Worldwide Box Office
Captain America: Civil War is now the highest grossing film of 2016 worldwide, and it's a hard sell to consider any other film knocking it off from its perch.
Box Office Mojo has the film at a worldwide tally of $978 million, with 68.6% of that off-shore. Considering the film has only been out just over two weeks, its a remarkable feat. The film has taken over Zootopia, which sits at $971.3 million, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is wallowing well short of its targeted billion at $870.1 million.
Domestically, the film sits at $306.6 million, still behind Zootopia ($332.3 million), Batman v Superman ($328.3 million), The Jungle Book ($314.1 million), and Deadpool ($362.6 million).
X-Men: Apocalypse is next up for FOX, so the two superhero films will be battling it out for some time, which may just hinder Civil War's chances of blowing the rest of the competition out of the water. Despite that, expect the numbers to soar for the superhero showdown.
