'Carol' Racks Up Impressive Tally of Nominations for Australian Academy of Cinema, 'The Big Short' Popular
Starring Australian actress Cate Blanchett, director Todd Haynes' Carol has picked up five nominations for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts' AACTVA International Awards.
The film gathered nominations for best film, best screenplay, best direction, best actress (Blanchett), and best supporting actress (Rooney Mara). The Big Short gathered four nominations, including best picture. Other films up for the top prize are Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, and Spotlight.
AFI/AACTVA CEO Damian Trewhella said "The AACTA International Awards add a unique Australian voice to the international discussion of screen excellence. On the one hand, our young Academy's Awards have become a reliable early forecaster of which performers, practitioners and productions will be recognized by our international peers via the Oscars and the BAFTAs."
