Carrie Fisher on Being Pressured to Lose Weight for The Force Awakens
In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Carrie Fisher discussed how she was pressured to lose more than 35 pounds for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
"They don't want to hire all of me - only about three-quarters!" Fisher said. "Nothing changes, it's an appearance-driven thing. I'm in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up.
"They might as well say get younger, because that's how easy it is." Against her frustration and better judgment, Fisher lost some of the weight for her role as Princess Leia. "My problem is they talk to me like an actress but I hear them like a writer."
This comes after Fisher told Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in the new film, "you should fight for your outfit. Don't be a slave like I was."
