Casting and synopsis for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Over the years there have been numerous films that are based on hit video games, but few are as successful as Resident Evil. The first of this franchise was out in 2002 (yes, 13 years ago!) and the 5th instalment, Resident Evil: Retribution, was released in 2012. Now Screen Gems had announced the sixth movie which will be titled Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
As the title suggests, Resident Evil: Final Chapter will be the last Resident Evil film and it aims to tie up all of the franchise’s loose ends. At the end of Retribution, we saw Alice (Milla Jovovich) in a stand against the zombie army of the Red Queen, the powerful AI at the heart of the nefarious Umbrella Corporation. In The Final Chapter we will see Alice and her allies fight the (final) battle for the fate of humanity.
The official plot synopsis is as follows:
Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.
Paul W.S. Anderson had written and will both direct and produce this instalment. He had previously produced all five Resident Evil movies and directed three. Screen Gems had also announced the cast with Ali Larter returning as Claire Redfield, Ian Glen as Dr. Alexander Isaacs and Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker. They will be joined by Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as Abigail, Eoin Macken (Merlin) as Doc, William Levy (Addicted) as Christian, Fraser James (Law & Order: UK) as Michael and Rola, a Japanese model and TV personality, as Cobalt.
Principal photography has already begun in South Africa and the movie is expected to be released in January 2017.
