Charlie Kaufman Script 'Chaos Walking' May Land Director Doug Liman

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell While Doug Liman has been tapped to direct X-Men spin-off Gambit following Rupert Wyatt's departure, the project continues to see delays. So it makes sense that the director wants to fill the time with other endeavours. That being said, he filled that time with the small-scale thriller The Wall, and this next one might just put his Gambit future in doubt.

THR reports that the director is in talks to helm the post-apocalyptic YA thriller Chaos Walking for Lionsgate, based on the Patrick Ness of the same name. And while another YA adaptation is near-cringeworthy at this point, this one has Charlie Kaufman's name on the script (albeit with a recent draft penned by Jamie Linden, who wrote Money Monster).

The story takes place in a world without women, where all living creatures can hear one another's thoughts in "a stream of images, words and sounds called Noise." When a young boy stumbles upon a silent young girl, the two take off on a dangerous journey.

If Liman takes the job, this will sound alarm bells for the tortured Gambit project, which is getting close to seeing one too many setbacks before it gets shelved.
