'Charmed' Prequel Series in the Works at The CW from 'Jane the Virgin' Creator
In an age of reboots, revivals, and re-imaginings, it feels like everything old is going to get its day again. And for Charmed, that day is today. The 90's Aaron Spelling-created drama series is getting a prequel series at The CW, after its eight season run on The WB apparently wasn't enough time to tell this story.
Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman, as well as its executive producer Ben Silverman, co-executive producers and writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin, director Brad Silberling, and CBS TV Studios are all heading up the rebooted series. Given that Jane the Virgin is one of the network's major critical hits, it's small wonder the network wants to capitalize on that talent.
The prequel will, as reported, change things up a bit and set events in the 1970s, and will follow a trio of witches broguht together in a small New England town to fight evil. There's not a lot of substance or originality to the concept, but it's early days.
The original cast is not expected to be involved, understandably. It's early days in the development of the project, so no casting has been done just yet. Nor do we have an idea of when this thing will actually reach TV screens.
