Chris Benoit Biopic, Titled 'Crossface' Gets a New Director
Former wrestler Chris Benoit is set to get his story told via a biopic titled Crossface, which moves forward with a script from Jake Goldberger and Sarah Coulter, and based on the book "Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry."
The film will be directed by Lexi Alexander, who certainly didn't see the move to film coming. She's been prolific on shows like Limitless, Supergirl, and Arrow.
“I was pretty certain I’d stay in TV rather than returning to the feature world, because the material just seems so much better in TV, especially in drama, but then ‘Crossface’ came my way,” Alexander said. “A heartbreaking, true story about the dark side of wrestling… I couldn’t say no to that.”
The film will detail Chris Benoit's journey to a top WWE wrestler, but most importantly it will also juggle the background events that took place, that resulted in him killing his wife and son and then himself. He was diagnosed with CTE postmortem. CTE is a brain condition that occurs after repeated head trauma.
