Are movie theatres at risk?

Curiosity for Screening Room is Hindered by Costs for Audiences

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell With Screening Room, the minds behind the project want to bring day one films into living rooms, which feels like a natural next step in the age of streaming services, for good or bad. With the opportunity comes expense though, with a $150 dollar shell-out for the hardware itself, and $50 for a movie.

A recent study conducted by MarketCast indicates that there's still plenty of work to do before a system like Screening Room can really take off with mainstream audiences. Around a quarter of those polled in the study showed interest in the system, but the overwhelming majority were adamant in their disinterest.

Most respondents cited cost, as well as having yet another piece of technology hooked up with their home entertainment setup. Around half of those polled also genuinely just enjoy the experience of going to the movie theater. Who would have thought?

While Screening Room might some day have a place, for now it seems the change is something people aren't interested in. $50 is cheaper to pay for a movie in some circles, say for a family of five that wants to see a movie together. But there might not be enough of those who would benefit from this to help it take off.
