Damon Lindelof Reveals the Biggest Mistake Made on Star Trek Into Darkness
Having received plenty of flack from fans of the most recent Star Trek film, Damon Lindelof discussed with Variety the most glaring mistake he's found in the aftermath of the 2013 film.
"[We won't] be mysterious just for mysterious sake," the notoriously secretive writer said. "When we did Star Trek Into Darkness for example, we decided that we weren't going to tell people that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing Khan. And that was a mistake, because the audience was like, "we know he's playing Khan"."
Audiences seemed particular frustrated because of the insistence that Khan Noonien Singh was not in the movie. Their denial was so outright that fans were made to feel crazy for even thinking it.
Fake-outs have always been cataclysmic for film and TV. Take the recent debacle with The Walking Dead, where Steven Yeun's name was removed from the opening credits for three episodes before it was revealed he survived the open-ended cliffhanger of weeks earlier. The same can be said for the villain in Spectre, who it was adamantly stated would not be a character from Bond's past.
