Director Zack Snyder Sought Out Advice from Christopher Nolan on Handling Batman Property
Having directed Man of Steel (on which Christopher Nolan served as a producer) Zack Snyder's sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is right around the corner. Now, the director has revealed he approached the English director for advice.
Talking with Empire, Snyder revealed that, after Nolan said that he "found it a little bit hard" to consider Superman and batman battling it out on the big screen, he told Snyder, "Well, we don't own these characters. When you're done making Batman movies, someone else will [make them]."
Nolan was the third director to take on the Dark Knight, and followed the critical and commercial death sentences that were Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. His revival of the franchise probably went a long way to making the current state of events possible for the character.
His advice is sound. There's no reason for Snyder to treat the characters as anything more than exactly that, and instead of treating them as gods he can build them up into what they need to be on the big screen. That will, in the end, please fans of the comic books, and the general audience alike.
