Disney is Looking Ahead with Plans for More Indiana Jones Sequels Beyond '5'
Disney is not intending to stop with just one Indiana Jones sequel, which is hardly a surprise. That being said, there may well be plans to reboot it.
CEO Bob Iger has stated that, while we can't expect a Star Wars-like Indiana Jones universe, there may well be a new direction ahead for the adventure saga.
For the fifth film, Steven Spielberg will be back to direct, and Harrison Ford starring with a John Williams score in the background (or probably more often than not foreground, which is just fine.)
Confirmation has come along that George Lucas will be serving as an executive producer on the film, Spielberg has confirmed. “I would never make an Indiana Jones film without George Lucas. That’d be insane.”
Speaking with THR, Iger expanded on the comments that this universe wouldn't be like Star Wars, but that doesn't mean it loses their attention. “Not like Star Wars, no. But we hope … right now, we’re focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort.”
“Well, we’ll bring [Harrison Ford] back, then we have to figure out what comes next. That’s what I mean. It’s not really a reboot, it’s a boot — a reboot. I don’t know,” he continued. “We [got] Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the film. But then what’s the direction? I’ve had discussions about what the direction is, [but] I don’t want to get into it.”
Plenty of loops are being taken to avoid revealing anything concrete, so we'll have to wait and see. But, given the property, and the cost of the property, previous remarks that Indiana Jones will not continue without Harrison Ford are probably, predictably, going to fall on deaf ears when the time comes.
