Disney Will Not Re-Hire James Gunn for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3'
Despite vocal backlash over the abrupt firing of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. It looks like Disney will not be bringing him back on board despite recent, conflicting reports.
According to Variety, Gunn and his reps had a meeting with Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan F. Horn. By the end of the meeting Disney's original stance wasn't changed. The sequel is still expected to use Gunn's completed script although the possibility of rewrites loom. Disney is waiting for a different director to come aboard.
Marvel President Kevin Feige was out of town when the meeting took place but he fully supports Disney's decision to not reinstate James Gunn.
The entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy came out in support of James Gunn. Yet, Disney still felt unmoved. The Variety piece didn't follow up on how much Disney is going to have to pay Gunn right now. Not to mention how Disney was still intrigued to bring him back to the MCU one day. Gunn is already attracting interest from Warner Bros. and other major studios.
This entire situation has had conflicting reports. This may seem like the final nail in the coffin but truly it is hard to tell. I would expect Disney to make some more announcements surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 soon. If not, that Avengers 4 press tour is going to be filled with the same subject.
