Ellen Page to star in Psychological Horror, Post-Apocalypse Film 'The Third Wave'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Not to be mistaken with last year's abysmal The 5th Wave, Ellen Page has been cast to star in an upcoming psychological horror film titled The Third Wave.

The Juno, Inception star will be thrust into the aftermath of a plague that struck Europe six years prior to the events of the film. The plague transformed humans into zombie-like monsters. As mankind struggled to control the situation, a cure was found. When things looked brighter, the past surfaces and the cured are haunted with memories of their actions during their time infected.

The story deals with the aftermath of this, as society is divided. Many of the cured are cast out by their families, and the governments attempts to eliminate 'the resistant' leads to the rise of a terrorist movement.

The film will begin production in Ireland late 2016. The concept sounds fascinating, too, given the over-saturation of zombie stories. It's an original direction that should certainly offer some unexpected twists.

“‘The Third Wave’ brings an entire new perspective to the zombie genre, which I love,” said Page. “David Freyne truly shifts his lens on society’s role in the apocalyptic world. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with audiences.”

The film will mark Irishman David Freyne's first feature film, following a series of successful genre short films. One such short film titled The First Wave acts as a prequel to the upcoming film. Freyne will both write and direct.
