Fault in Our Stars Director Trading One King Novel for Another, Puts The Stand on Hold

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The Stand has been an acquisition that many in Hollywood want to see become a visual whole on the big screen. Stephen King's massive tome has proved to be a daunting task over the years, with many directors and actors moving in and out of the circle that surrounds the film.

Director of The Fault in Our Stars Josh Boone has been attached to the project for some time now, and while he still plans on making The Stand, it seems he has a different King novel in mind that he'd rather prioritise.

Deadline reports that Boone has finished a screenplay for Revival, King's 2014 faith based novel that follows a deranged preacher and a protege who harnesses the power of electricity to redefine faith healing in the dreary world of a King novel.

Revival shapes up as a far 'easier' project, a straight-forward tale that won't demand an enormous budget the same way The Stand and the also-gestating The Dark Tower Series. Boone still has The Stand on his mind though, with a script and a handful of actors who have committed verbal interest in the film.

Boone had this to say regarding Revival: When I read Revival, I was like, man, did you write this for me? I’d been on both sides of that pendulum. I call myself a non-believer, now, and when I moved to LA, it was like Neo being pulled out of The Matrix. Oh, my god, none of that stuff is true! But it was what I’d been taught and what I believed in since childhood. I believed in the devil, in Jesus, and even now as a non-believer, I’m still fascinated by that world and Revival is the scariest thing he’s written since Pet Sematary. He tricks you, drawing you in gently, with that narrator’s voice and a long time span that reminds you of The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile, and then he pulls that rug from under you in that last act and you’re like, oh my god, what have I gotten myself into?
