Female Directors and Writers Taking Meetings for Future Star Wars Films
Head of Lucasfilm and producer Kathleen Kennedy said earlier this year that "there's nothing we'd like more than to find a female director for 'Star Wars'".
While the next few years are set in stone, with male directors in line for the next two episodes plus spin-offs, plans are going ahead to involve more filmmaking women.
Following a meet in which 44 of Hollywood's movers and shakers addressed the heavily talked about gender bias and gaps in hiring, agent and partner at WME Adriana Alberghetti has organised four female directors and three female writers for meetings for future Star Wars films.
Names and films were not made clear, though the agent does represent directors Sarah Gavron and S.J. Clarkson, as well as screenwriters Linda Woolverton and Marti Noxon.
In any case, for a series with seemingly limitless potential in the near future, steps are clearly being taken to involve more creative women in the industry's major franchise films.
