Fifty Shades Darker Adds Big Name to Sequel's Cast
Fifty Shades of Grey pulled in $500 million at the worldwide box office last year, despite sub-par reviews. Because of its take, and the book saga's global popularity, it's a no brainer that we're getting a sequel.
Now, Fifty Shades Darker has added a big name to its cast, boosting it with Kim Basinger playing lead character Christian Grey's former lover. The 62 year old is playing Elena Lincoln, who is in addition a business partner of Grey, who's played by Jamie Dornan.
Dakota Johnson, Dornan, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, and Max Martini are all reportedly returning for the sequel.
E.L. James, the author of the novels, caused quite a bit of disquiet on set, reportedly, for the first one, and the delay in the sequel's take off has a lot to do with the studio's search for a new director. That chair, however, has now been filled by James Foley.
Universal intends to shoot the sequel, and its follow up, Fifty Shades Freed, back-to-back. Darker will hit theaters on February 10, 2017, and its follow-up on February 9, 2018.
