Too Old to Die Young stars Miles Teller (Whiplash), Jena Malone (The Neon Demon), and John Hawkes (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) in a story that centers on a grieving police officer who, along with the man who shot his partner, finds himself immersed in LA’s criminal underworld complete with hitmen, Yakuza, assassins, mafia and gang members.
The first teaser for Nicolas Winding Refn's new 10-episode Amazon series looks and feels every bit on #brand as it reads on paper. And according to Refn’s original logline, Too Old explores the existential journeys transforming criminal killers to becoming samurai. Yes “samurai”; because Refn’s brand would not be complete without an existential journey layered with a philosophical narrative about Samurai warriors and Zen Buddhism.
Too Old to Die Young marks the first American television series for the Danish filmmaker and second Amazon collaboration since Refn's 2016 schismatic psychological horror and personal favorite, The Neon Demon. Refn directed all ten episodes and co-wrote the series along with Captain America: Winter Soldier writer Ed Brubaker.
Series cast also includes Billy Baldwin (Gossip Girl), Callie Hernandez (La La Land), Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), Cristina Rodlo (Sony’s Miss Bala), Augusto Aguilera (The Predator) and Babs Olusanmokun (The Defenders).
Amazon has not yet set an official premiere date for Too Old to Die Young, but it’s expected to debut sometime in 2019.
