Francis Ford Coppola Reveals His Five-Year Plan for his Next Film 'Distant Vision'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Francis Ford Coppola has no issues with making us wait for his next film, titled Distant Vision. The film is a generation-spanning tale of an Italian-American family that runs parallel with television's development - birth, growth, and “the end of television as it turns into the internet.” It certainly sounds ambitious, but what would you expect?

The director spoke at Tribeca last week, and revealed that the film's process will require "at least five years." Currently, the screenplay is around 500 pages long, and the film is playing off a "live cinema" aspect. What this means, exactly? A live performance that's recorded and beamed into theaters (or TV0 as it's occurring.

Instead of a filmed-play approach, Coppola wants to crack “all the technical logistics of how to produce and shoot a live performance that still has the visual appearance of a movie." The director intends on several shorter productions between then and now, which may be proof of concept" projects.

We'll have to remain patient, and trust in the visionary filmmaker's vision. Ambition is not something that's new to him.
