Further World-Building to Separate Starz's Upcoming 'American Gods' from its Source Material
Starz is set to debut American Gods early in 2017, and Neil Gaiman's seminal work is highly regarded and some of the best source material that creators are likely to find. That being said, for it to work as a television series, some liberties may well need to be taken.
Nerdist is reporting that the show is looking to expand its universe and explore the tales of several gods in the series, and how those gods came to be in America. Leprechaun Mad Sweeney is one particular character who looks likely to get an extensive origin story.
The popular, award-winning fantasy novel follows a war between the traditional gods and the contemporary ones, through the eyes of ex-con Shadow Moon, who gets out of prison, loses his wife, and is hired as a bodyguard for the mysterious Mr. Wednesday all in one day.
