'Game of Thrones' Alum Natalie Dormer to Star in 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'

HaydnSpurrell Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games actress Natalie Dormer has signed on for Australian adaptation of Picnic at Hanging Rock. The project is a six-part drama series for Foxtel from FremantleMedia. It is described as a reimaging of Joan Lindsay's novel, which explores the mysterious disappearance of three shoolgirls and a teacher on Valentine's Day in 1900.

Shooting starts in Victoria, Australia later this month, and Screen Australia and Film Victoria have invested toward the production. Foxtel head of drama Penny Win said: “The accomplished cast … will give new forms to Joan Lindsay’s iconic characters as the actors take up the scripts our writers, Bea Christian and Alice Addison, have drawn from the provocative spirt of the original mystery. Though the story remains in 1900, ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ will be 21st-century storytelling for the premium Foxtel drama audience.”
